Matt has worked in Procurement related roles for the last 20 years. After studying Mechanical Engineering, Matt’s first job was as Trainee Technical Buyer with a UK based FTSE100 Manufacturing Company. Matt then moved into Aerospace Manufacturing, working as a Senior Buyer for the company that provides Airbus with its undercarriages. He progressed rapidly in this area through restructuring the Supply Base and Improving Processes. He was then head hunted by BAE Systems, as Procurement Lead of a cross functional team. This involved working with Cap Gemini Ernst & Young on a two year program to introduce LEAN Principles across the organisation. The program was well recognised in the Industry (LEAP – Lean Enterprise in Aerospace Production). Following this, Matt was head hunted by a FTSE100 Financial Services Organisation to head up the Supply Chain Projects / Re-engineering Team. Matt applied the LEAN principles, completely Re-Engineered the Supply Chain to deliver, huge Cost Savings (c.30%), Improved Supplier Control, Improved Customer Service and Significantly Reduced Lead Times. Following the success of this program, another FTSE100 Organisation outsourced their complete Supply Chain to the Re-Engineered Company. This Program was seen as leading edge and well respected within the Industry. On the back of this success, Matt was recruited by the fastest growing FTSE250 Company, as Programme Director. The company was growing rapidly both organically and through acquisition. Matt worked on the acquisitions of two major companies, built all financial models, built and implemented business development plans, integrated the businesses with the parent company and ran the P&L. After this, Matt decided to work as an Independent Consultant, offering Procurement and Project Management Skills to Organisations within many different sectors, including Government, Construction, Health and Safety and Financial Services. As part of this Consultancy work, Matt was asked to write the CIPP training program. This has proved to be hugely popular and successful as it approaches the Procurement Process in a pragmatic, structured and realistic manner.
